Technology can become a concrete tool to prevent risk situations, ask for help quickly and provide greater peace of mind to those who face contexts of violence or insecurity.
With this purpose, the Municipality of Ñuñoa launched a new Safety Devices Program for Women, an initiative promoted by the Department of Women and Hub Ñuñoa that incorporates ALARA devices as part of its protection and support strategy.
In its first stage, the program will benefit 50 women from the commune, who received a personal safety device and participated in training to learn how to use it correctly and know the activation protocol in the event of an emergency.
Technology to strengthen women's safety
Safety for women requires comprehensive solutions that combine prevention, support and tools that allow us to react quickly to a risk situation.
For this reason, the program developed in Ñuñoa is not limited only to providing a panic button. The initiative incorporates technology into the work of guidance, psychosocial support and prevention of gender violence carried out by the Municipality of Ñuñoa through its Women's Department.
ALARA devices were designed so that a person can send a help message with their real-time location quickly and discreetly, without having to take out or extensively manipulate the phone.
This feature is especially relevant in situations where every second can make a difference.
How does the ALARA safety device work?
When activating from the device, the technology allows you to send a help message with the location in real time to previously configured emergency contacts.
Unlike a GPS or a traditional tracker, ALARA does not permanently monitor the person's location. The location is shared only when the user activates an alert, thus protecting their privacy and autonomy.
A discreet panic button for everyday use
One of the main challenges of traditional emergency systems is that they are often visible, difficult to transport or not available just when a risk situation occurs.
ALARA seeks to solve this problem by integrating the panic button into discreet, everyday accessories.
This allows the security device to always be within reach of the person and can be activated quickly, even when taking out the cell phone is not a safe alternative.
The proposal combines cutting-edge technology, ease of use and a design designed to accompany people during their daily routine.
Training and emergency protocol
The delivery of a security device must be accompanied by clear information, preparation and a protocol that allows knowing how to act.
During the launch of the program, the participants received training on the operation of the ALARA devices and learned about the activation protocol established to face an emergency.
This preparation is essential so that users can familiarize themselves with the technology, correctly configure their emergency contacts and perform preventive tests before needing to use the device in a real situation.
It also allows the use of the panic button to be incorporated into a broader support and prevention strategy.
