The creation of a new ministry dedicated to dealing with security issues is being processed in the Senate chamber. It is about the Ministry of Public Security. What will be the functions of the new ministry?

Among the functions mentioned are the following:

• Ensure the protection, maintenance and promotion of public safety, public order and crime prevention.
• Develop a national strategy against terrorism that addresses the criminal phenomenon comprehensively.
• Formulate, design and evaluate national policies and strategies aimed at preventing and combating national and transnational organized crime, drug trafficking and terrorist acts.
• Design policies, plans and programs aimed at protecting borders.

So, what functions would the current Ministry of the Interior have?

As mentioned on the website of the Chamber of Deputies, it is mentioned that the current ministry will be in charge of matters related to the political and local government of the territory, local and regional development, border and migration issues and coordination and response to social conflicts, emergencies, disasters, catastrophes and reconstruction, etc.

However, not everyone agrees

Given the creation of this new ministry, representatives of the Republican Party, Evópoli and opposition Independents criticize that this new ministry is going to bring more bureaucracy and it is not the solution to combat the security problems that affect the country today.
